A major grant has been approved by the Power to Change Trust to help fund the restoration of a locomotive on the South Tynedale Railway.
The money will also be used to create a new micro enterprise delivering railway experiences on the line for the first time.
Ex-PKP 0-6-0 steam locomotive "Naklo" is to be overhauled and rebuilt in-house at Alston, safeguarding existing jobs and will create new opportunities in the engineering department.
Power to Change supports community businesses across the UK to develop fresh innovations that contribute to the growth and sustainability of the overall business.
A grant in excess of £200,000 has been awarded to the South Tynedale Railway Preservation Society.
