This is the west portal of the Summit Tunnel, number 6, (at 7,018 feet elevation) on the abandoned Donner Pass line. Large heavy chunks of granite lie on the portal floor after breaking away from the roof. Water drips slowly from the ceiling continuously, patiently, eroding the rock. There is that usual musty smell unused tunnels present. The place is labeled No Trespassing, so for the prudent person, there should be no temptation to enter.
