Goathland Yorkshire England United Kingdom - Rail lovers are in for a treat as one of the world's most famous steam locomotives is making a comeback on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) this half-term.
The Sir Nigel Gresley locomotive, which holds the post-war record for steam traction at 112 miles per hour, returns for the final week of the summer season after major boiler repairs has seen the engine being out of action since March.
The train is one of only six remaining in the world, with four in the United Kingdom and two based in North America.
Marketing manager Phil Busted said, "It is lovely to see this locomotive back in action. It is a beautiful engine and is a very distinctive blue. I am very pleased that Sir Nigel Gresley is back and open to the general public."
The locomotive will be pulling carriages twice daily this week, in both the morning and afternoon, and will be running from Grosmont to Pickering and back.
A single adult fare from Grosmont to Pickering is £16 and for a family of two adults and up to four children it is £45.
