Same locomotive, same location as the previous photo, but looking the opposite way, as Merddin Emrys chuffs into the curve. The large hill ahead of the train is man-made comprised of slate mining waste. The hills around Blaenau Ffestiniog have several abandoned inclines, quarries, and slate tips. The whole area has a depressing grey cast to the scenery which is even more dreary when the rains arrive. Aside from the large mountain which looms over the High Street the slate bearing mountains appear to be the work of man. Blaenau is without a doubt a blue collar village.
