Crich Tramway Village, near Matlock, home to the National Tramway Museum, has reopened on selected days and offers one of Derbyshire's great family days out.
Step back in time and take a leisurely ride on one of the vintage trams, which run along a period street, climbing a mile of track, which provides breath-taking views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside.
Experience the fascinating Woodland Walk and Sculpture Trail, which winds its way back to the village, and relax with some refreshments from the Red Lion pub and cafe, which are offering a takeaway service, before visiting the fascinating exhibitions.
The Great Exhibition Hall features static trams showing the Century of Trams, from horse-drawn to the electric era, and the History Maker's Exhibition, detailing the creative genius of Michael Holroyd Smith.
Other exhibitions show the development of family life in the towns, the early story of the Tramway Museum, and the reasons why trams were introduced into this country.
Located behind the old Derby Assembly Rooms facade, the Survive and Thrive exhibition looks at the re-introduction of modern tramway systems in cities around the UK.
You will also find the intriguing exhibition, The Mobile Post Box - Mail by Tram, which reveals how, in the early 20th century, tramcars became mobile post boxes, carrying and delivering letters and parcels.
It explores some of the challenges that had to be overcome to provide this service.
There are picnic areas and an outdoor play area to keep the children entertained.
Dogs on a lead are also welcome, but not permitted inside the cafe.
For a spot of retail therapy, the Forge Gift Shop offers mementos of your visit and the traditional sweet shop enables you to buy your old favourites by the quarter.
An access tram for wheelchair users runs on Tuesdays and Saturdays if requested a week in advance, and there is disabled access to all the facilities.
Covid-19 guidelines are in place, and a summary of these can be downloaded from the website.
Crich Tramway Village is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and weekends plus the 31 August Bank Holiday until Sunday, 1 November 2020 from 10:00.
