- complete internal stripping of cabs and installation of new acoustic and thermal insulation;
- installation of new windows for increased visibility;
- installation of improved heating systems and crew comfort facilities where required;
- construction of new control stands with the controller mechanism completely refurbished, installation of all new
switches, circuit breakers, light sockets, terminal boards and gauges;
- cutting down of short hoods for increased visibility, and installation of new lighting assemblies;
- discarding of old style ballast and replacement with billets;
- enlargement of sand boxes with sand traps moved above the deck to be accessible for outside maintenance;
- complete stripping, cleaning and refurbishing of long hoods;
- design of new electrical cabinets where required;
- complete rewiring of all power, control and A.C. circuitry to meet the highest standards of insulation and
reliability.
One of the aims of the rebuilding program is to achieve a higher level of standardization of parts and
components for increased flexibility and lower inventory costs.
