Dedicated Power for the Future
This program to revitalize its locomotive fleet in the
decade of the 1980s is the most significant planned upgrading of motive power undertaken by CP Rail since the conversion to
diesel in the 1950s. The application of proven and modern technologies will result in a custom-designed yard
fleet of increased reliability and availability. Downtime will be reduced along with maintenance costs. More powerful
engines in dedicated service will be capable of handling all yard assignments, eliminating bottlenecks and improving
customer service.
On completion of the program, CP Rail will have eliminated its reliance on first generation diesel power and
will have acquired, at least possible cost, a modern, reliable yard and road motive power fleet.
