DFB No. 1, Furkahorn, approaches the Realp station platform about to couple to the awaiting passenger cars. Clearly visible to the left of the locomotive is the east portal of the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn's (MGB) Furka Base tunnel. It was the completion of this tunnel in 1982 that eliminated the need for MGB trains to climb over Furka Pass. Nearly eleven years later Dampfbahn Furka-Bergstrecke started their steam powered service on a portion of the abandoned route over Furka Pass. Their entire route over the pass is now complete between Realp and Oberwald.
