Three foot gauge 2-8-0 Consolidation class C-18 number 318 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1896 for the Florence & Cripple Creek Railroad (F&CC). The Denver & Rio Grande Western (D&RGW) purchased the engine in 1917 and renumbered it 428 but later renumbered it to 318. The engine spent much of its life plying passenger and freight trains out of Salida, Durango, and Montrose until its last few years where it ran out of Pagosa Springs and Ouray.
