The Reno Trench

The bill for ReTRAC was US$265 million and was paid for with a hotel room tax, special downtown assessment district, sales tax increase, city bond, US$17 million from Union Pacific Railroad, and federal grants.

No money from the city's general fund was used.

On 18 Nov 2005 the first train rolled through the completed trench just three years after construction began.

After 10 years and hundreds of planning meetings, ReTRAC was completed on time, and under budget.

Today, vehicles flow through downtown without waiting while trains move almost silently underground.

ReTRAC will have an impact on the community for many years to come and in many different ways.
